Object Stalk

Stalking may occur towards a small, stationary or moving object upon which the cat has focussed. This closely resembles stalking of live prey (see under Maintenance Behaviour). With the head stretched forward towards the object, the cat will assume a lowered body posture, through bending its legs, and hold its tail out directly behind the body, usually in line with or lower than its back. The ears and whiskers will be oriented forwards towards the object. Overall the cat’s body will appear elongated. The cat will move closer to the object using slow, controlled movements. Deliberate individual steps are taken, often with frequent pauses occurring, even mid stride, resulting in a forepaw being held off the ground.
