Object Poke

The cat protracts either of its forepaws distally, towards an object, either directly, or through a gap or hole, such as through the side of a box. The limb is generally extended, moving principally from the shoulder. Contact with the object is usually made with the toe or paw pads, which usually remains prone. Claws are frequently retracted. Contact with the object is often brief with the paw being withdrawn although poking may be repeated. The cat is generally stationary when poking an object. The paw movement may be slow, appearing cautious or exploratory, or more vigorous, which frequently results in movement of the object.
