The cat opens its mouth, moving its upper and lower teeth apart thereby releasing an object previously held in the mouth. The object will drop to the floor unless the cat makes a sudden lateral movement with its head as it opens its jaws, when the object will instead be tossed, usually landing further afield from the cat.
