Auto-grooming can be defined as a maintenance activity which a cat directs at its skin, coat or claws and will usually encompass licking, scratching, shaking and non-injurious nibbling or biting (see separate sections for detailed descriptions). A healthy cat will usually groom all areas of the body that it can reach.
